Soil Waste Classification

All soil and stone waste in Ireland must be recovered / disposed of to a suitably regulated facility (i.e. operating under a Waste Licence, Waste Facility Permit or Certificate of Registration (COR)). Prior to acceptance, the correct waste classification needs to be determined in order to ensure that the waste acceptance criteria (WAC) of the facility can be met. Patrick McCabe of Hydrec Environmental Consulting has many years experience in the soil waste classification process.

In addition to maintaining legal compliance, the correct classification of waste soils will guarantee that the most cost effective disposal options are taken. To ensure that this is the case for all our clients, Hydrec Environmental Consulting's typical approach involves:

  • Plan and conduct necessary site investigation in accordance with BS 5930:2015

  • Carry out representative soil sampling and parameter selection in line with the site's history and disposal facility requirements

  • Analyse soil results and determine correct soil classification (i.e. Inert, Non-Hazardous or Hazardous). Patrick McCabe has extensive expertise in the HazWasteOnlineâ„¢ sotfware, which is an industry standard application accepted in Ireland by the EPA to define 'Non-Hazardous' / 'Hazardous' soils

  • Determination of appropriate List of Waste (LoW) codes for the waste soils

  • Appraisal of most cost effective solution for disposal in line with facility WAC and regulatory compliance.
